Walkin’ By appreciates drop back in grade30 Oct 2019

Walkin’ By delivered the surprise result of Labour weekend racing, when she scored at odds of 24/1 in the $22,500 Foster Construction (Rating 65) over 1200 metres at Te Rapa.

The five-year-old mare appreciated the drop back to Rating 65 grade, and the daughter of Denman duly obliged.
Jumping from barrier seven, rider Sam Collett settled the Tony Pike runner back past midfield but finished strongly down the middle of the track to beat Show Down (V. Colgan) by a head, with three-quarters of a length back to Heart Of Stone (C. Grylls) in third place.

Walkin’ By’s winning time was 1:11.21 (last 600m in 35.03) on a Dead4 track.

“She’s been threatening to win. Her fresh-up performance, she needed the run, and her second run at Taupo, rider Ashvin (Goindasamy) got a little lost on the corner,” Tony Pike Racing Manager Dean Williams said.
“She dropped a grade today and got a lovely ride by Sam, so it was good to see her back in form.”
“She never goes a bad race here and she is a very genuine mare. The owners have been patient, so it was a great result for the connections,” Williams added.

Walkin’ By’s third win from 26 starts include 11 placings and takes her stakes past $66,000 for her owners M J & Mrs S Hardy, T R & Mrs V M Pascoe, B J & V A Squair.
