Tweedledee takes out John F. Grylls Memorial Classic15 Sep 2019

The feature race on the card, the $15,000 John F. Grylls Memorial Classic (Rating 72) over 1600 metres lived up to its billing, though most punters were not expecting the favourite to be rolled.
Second favourite ($4.50) Tweedledee appreciated the 2kgs apprentice claim and a brave ride by Taiki Yanagida to outbob favourite Crystallize (M. Hashizume) by a neck with Wrangler (T. Harris) just under a length back in third.
Yanagida positioned the seven-year-old behind leader El Coolio until the turn electing to stick to the inside as the field fanned out, taking the lead at the 200m mark and as Crystallize loomed up to threaten, Tweedledee fought back to hold the punters elect at bay.
“He did really well today. In his last start, he was too keen early but he relaxed nicely today.” Yanagida said.
“I followed the leader and he fought really well in the straight. It was a pretty good effort.”

Tweedledee’s winning time was 1:40.82 (last 600m in 38.43) on a Heavy10 track.

“It was a pretty brave performance. He’s really starting to put it together,” co-trainer Lance O’Sullivan said.
“We are keen to run him further than a mile but it’s been difficult to place him, so that’s why we are back here today.”
“Taiki has done an exceptional job. The horse runs really well for Taiki. He rides him in a lot of his work at home and just seems to run for him,” he added.

Tweedledee sixth win from 29 starts takes his prizemoney to over $70,000 for owners and breeders A P, D J & Mrs J T Gollan.
