Trials at Te Rapa17 Oct 2019

It was a cold spring morning at Te Rapa on Tuesday but that didn't shy away some of the Waikato’s talented gallopers as they look to build up preparations for a big summer of racing.

Below are only a snippet of horses to follow out of our trial meeting.

Last season’s G1 Telegraph runner up Ferrando kicked off his 19/20 Season with a trial win over 880m. Ridden by Ryan Elliot he jumped outside the leader and was able to kick away and hold onto a lead up the inner track straight. The entire looked to have plenty in reserve as Virtuoso Lad made up some good ground late to make the winning margin only a neck.

Our Legacy Lodge stakes runner up last season Yearn looks to be on track for another competitive season. The multiple group places mare is now in her six year old season but won impressively as she looks to add further black type to her pedigree page. Locally trained Flaunting for the David Greene barn looks ready to tackle some 3yo races as she hit the line well in behind.

Cool Aza Beel was the victor of the first two year old race of the season in early September and was given a hit out yesterday for Te Akau and Opie Bosson. He comfortably put away his 2yo 880m trial field by 2 ¼ lengths. The Savabeel colt will be looking to add to his unbeaten record when he next steps out on track.
