Tough Scarfi goes back to back11 Jun 2019

Scarfi continued her rampant form with another strong win, taking honours in the $11,000 Bupa Care Services (Rating 72) over 1200 metres at Te Rapa on Saturday.

Punters sent the Chris Gibbs and Michelle Bradley trained daughter of Makfi favourite after a compelling last start win a month ago.

With Cameron Lammas aboard, Scarfi settled behind the leaders challenging pacemaker Chiquitita (S.Spratt) at the 150m mark and stuck on well to win by a neck, with one and a quarter lengths back to Tellyawhat (A.Goindasamy) in third place.

“It was a gutsy win. She keeps on improving,” Cameron Lammas said.

“She’s a lot strong this time in and keeps winning.”

Scarfi’s winning time was 1:12.43 (last 600m in 36.16) on a Slow9 track.

“It was a very impressive win by her,” co-trainer Chis Gibbs said.

“I thought she was a little tardy at the gates because she was fresh, probably looking for 1400 metres but she got the job done.”

“It tough conditions today, and give her credit she’s tough herself, all her runs she’s actually gone forward and tried to hang on but she’s actually finding a turn of foot.”

“We’ve been waiting for these kind of weather and conditions and I think she’ll go on with it if we place her right.”
