Symbio gets deserved win7 Oct 2019

Symbio capped of some good recent form with a well deserved win in the $22,500 U S Navy Flag @ Valachi Downs (Rating 65) over 1600 metres on Friday.

The Jenna Mahoney trained gelding had been placed in his last two runs was sent out by punters as third favourite ($4.80) in the 11-horse field.

From barrier four, rider Jonathan Riddell settled the four-year-old son of sire of the moment Ocean Park three back on the rail, challenging halfway down the straight, and in a slogging drive to the wire, Symbio eventually got the upperhand by a short neck from Transformer (C. Burdan) with Nomoathaj (S. Spratt) third another half a length away.

Symbio’s winning time was 1:36.88 (last 600m in 36.72) on a Dead6 track.

“He’s been a consistent performer all season and tries real hard,” trainer Jenna Mahoney said.
“We tried to get one more win from him before a break. He’s not the sort of horse that can run on the hard tracks that’s why he’s been work through winter. It’s ideal this Dead surface, so we’ll see what happens with the weather and go from there,” Mahoney added.

Symbio second win from 9 starts includes three placings and takes his stakes past $30,000 for owners Mate Vlasic, Mark Walsh, Reid Thurlow, Nash Jack, A & K McMaster, Gareth Rose, Jenna Mahoney, The Naenae Boys Syndicate & Gallop-2-Raro Syndicate.
