Smart win by De La Terre10 Nov 2019

The Rogerson team looks to have another newfound talent in their hands following the smart win of De La Terre in the $22,500 Ron Backhouse (2YO) over 1000 metres on Saturday.

Sent out as the $3.80 second favourite, De La Terre (Ryan Elliot) began well from the outside fence, followed in an ideal one-out one-back position before being popped the question at the top of the straight. Leader and favourite Bordeaux Le Rouge (Sam Collett) did put up a fight, but Elliot did not panic and once he pushed the button, the issue was quickly put beyond doubt, though there were some slight signs of waywardness in the closing stages.

De La Terre levelled up at the 200m but his greenness soon took over as he started to gawk around, but Elliot held him together to the line to hit home by one and half a length clear of Bordeaux La Rogue (S. Collett), with over five lengths further back to Tellmesomethingboy (L. Satherley)

De La Terre’s winning time was 58.66 (last 600m in 33.81) on a Good 3 track

“I think she is a pretty good horse. She still has a little bit to learn. We have put visor blinkers on her. She thinks she’s good," Graeme Rogerson said.
“We aiming for the Karaka Million.”
“The second horse must be good, we think a lot of our one,” Rogerson added.

De La Terre was purchased from Book One at the 2019 Karaka Yearling Sales for $55,000 from Westbury Stud's draft and is raced by G A Rogerson, Dr Siro Fuatai, Te Keeti Bloodstock Ltd, B A Hamilton, Butterworth Racing Syndicate & G R Wilson.
