Roc Cha leads home a first four for Rogerson4 Aug 2019

Team Rogerson enjoyed a good day at the office at Te Rapa on Saturday, starting when favourite Roc Cha led all the way to give the training trio of Graeme, Debbie and Bailey Rogerson a first four finish in the $25,000 Win The Group 2 Waikato Guineas (3yo) over 1100 metres.

The daughter of Westbury Stud’s El Roca, the three year-old was sent out ($1.80) hot favourite on the back of finishing second behind recent stakes winner Sai Fah here two weeks ago.

From the ace draw, rider Trudy Thornton sent her forward, hugging the rail and the pair never looked troubled, recording a comfortable two length victory to stablemates Mascarpone (M.Cameron) and Easyrider (C.Lammas) a neck back in third.
“She came into the race with good form, just beaten by a couple better on the day.”
“I thought I’d just let her run having no leader in the race. She’s got a bit of speed and she’s tough and handled the ground so it was well deserved,” Trudy Thornton said.
“The track is really nice. They did upgrade it after the first. She ran 36 and change for the last 600m which indicated it’s not deep,” Thornton said.

Roc Cha’s winning time was 1:06.98 (last 600m in 36.14) on an upgraded Slow9 track.

Team Rogerson provided six of the seven starters in the race.
“She’s the one we nominated and the Club only had two but I do like a couple of them having runs. They were going to trial and this is a local meeting so we held up a couple races,” Graeme Rogerson said.
“She’s run good honest races, she’s a good game filly.”
“I think my other runner, the third placegetter Easyrider is something special.”
“A couple of my runners will be aimed at the Group One NZ 2000 Guineas,” Rogerson added.
The win was Roc Cha’s first on her fifth attempt and takes her stakes to $26,000 for owners L H Gurney, Mrs J A & P R Perry, G A Rogerson MNZM & Miss L A Rogerson.
