Quality performance by Chiaretta7 Oct 2019

Trainer Stephen Marsh summed up Chiaretta’s performance as “quality” after the filly recorded a stylish win in the $25,000 NZB Ready To Run Nov 20-21 (3yo) over 1200 metres on Friday.

The daughter of Makfi faced a strong field of three-year-olds settled at the rear of the field from her outside barrier for jockey Danielle Johnson but finished strongly to beat Bella Mente (S. Weatherley) by a neck. Roc Cha (J. Kam) finished third, two lengths back.

“She has a few gears. Going forward, she’s a pretty progressive filly,” Johnson said.
“Her first run was pretty smart behind Appellant. She’s going to go places.”

Chiaretta’s winning time was 1:11.17 (last 600m in 34.99) on a Dead6 track.

“It was a quality performance,” trainer Stephen Marsh said.
“We were always going to go back and knew the pace would be on,” Marsh said.
“You just don’t know if they can make up that much ground in a nice field like this.
“Danielle saved a couple of lengths here and there and presented her at the right time.”
“It was nice to watch, the last bit.”

“We’re not trying to head down South Island, so we can look to either the Soliloquy or the Satan Memorial, and see which is suitable to us. We now know she likes Te Rapa and she has run second at Ellerslie.”
“Between Lib, Bruce and I, we have talked about getting her through to Christmas and she is a filly we would ideally like to get to Sydney in the autumn,” Marsh said.
“At this stage, box one has been ticked. Treat her pretty carefully then have a big autumn.”

Chiaretta was purchased from Book 1 at the 2018 Karaka Yearling Sales for $200,000 from Windsor Park Stud draft by Bruce Perry for prominent Wellington owner Lib Petagna.
