Overdue win for Flaunt It Girl15 Sep 2019

Patience paid off for connections of Flaunt It Girl after she captured the $10,000 Melbourne Cup At Te Rapa (Maiden) over 1200 metres.

The four-year-old mare some promise early in her career, being stakes placed as a juvenile but her form tapered off in her three-year-old season. Trainer Jason Price was, however, able to detect the little niggles behind and treated the daughter of Sidereus accordingly.
Fresh-up after a ten month spell, the mare was sent out as third favourite ($8) rider Shaun McKay had her three wide away from trouble but finished strongly to beat Major Billy Lister (S.Weatherley) by length and a quarter, with a further length back to Sleepy Geeg (E.McCall) in third.
“She’s been racing in good company as a three-year-old and the break has been good to her and she’s come up really well,” Shaun McKay said.
“She’s hasn’t had the best of luck in the good company she’s raced in but she kept out of trouble today and once I started working on her, she found the line good.”
“She’s a horse that will keep improving, her future looks quite bright,” McKay added.

Flaunt It Girl’s winning time was 1:14.95 (last 600m in 37.24) on a Heavy10 track.

“She had a lot of work since her last start but had a few little niggles so we have her a good break and got them right and just getting her fit,” trainer Jason Price said.
“She has always shown us a lot of ability, she can reel off good sectionals especially the last 600 metres. She always finds some bad luck in races and today she finally got some luck and deserved the win.”
“It was a nice ride by Shaun. We wanted to give her a dig and get her in a handy position and bring her to the outside where she has room to let down and she was strong to the line,” Price said.

Flaunt It Girl maiden win came in her eleventh start and increases her stakes tally just short of $20,000 for owners B R Pemberton, J A & Mrs K A Price.
Trainer Jason Price purchased Flaunt It Girl at the 2017 Karaka Festival Sale from Nerobella Lodge’s draft for $8,500.
