Oliveira continues healthy strike rate12 Nov 2019

Trainer Alex Oliveira made his only runner count on Saturday when Heart Of Soul broke maiden ranks in the $10,000 Norris Ward McKinnon Family Law (Maiden) over 1400 metres.

The slashing win from the Showcasing four-year-old again showcased the training ability of the Brazilian-born horseman. The 48-year-old, who represented New Zealand in eventing in 2005 and 2006, has a brilliant strike rate.

Heart of Soul had been closely beaten in his previous two starts but was never looked threatened on the weekend running out a convincing one and half length winner over Master Herb (L. Satherley) with Stratius (T. Thornton) a head back in third.

From barrier four, rider Sam Spratt settled the gelding handy to the leaders whipping around the leaders at the turn, taking the lead at the 200m mark and let down strongly for an comfortable win.

Heart Of Soul’s winning time was 1:24.75 (last 600m in 35.23) on a Good3 track

Heart Of Soul was purchased for $56,000 at the 2018 Karaka Yearling Sale from Haunui Farm’s draft and is raced by Mrs A Nixon.
