Mazzuro bounces back to winning form29 Oct 2019

It’s taken a little over 18 months but emerging stayer Mazzuro could not have picked a more auspicious time to return to the winners circle after an easy win in the $22,500 Legends Day 8th February On Sale Now (Rating 65) 2100 metres on Labour Day at Te Rapa.

Ridden by Michael McNab, Mazzuro settled midfeld on the rail, cruising up the leaders at the 300m mark and going on the score comfortably by two and a half lengths. Hesalljazz (J.Waddell) finished second ahead of Mighty Connor (R. Kozaki) a long head back in third.
“That’s much more like him and he seems to be improving all the time,” Michael McNab said.
“He was relaxed and won very well.”

Mazzuro’s winning time was 2:11.28 (last 600m in 35.98) on a Dead4 track.

“It was a good tough win and I’m really pleased for Bill and Sandra,” Te Akau trainer Jamie Richards said.
“We’ve had absolutely no luck with him. He had a chip removed from a fetlock after campaigning as a three-year-old in Melbourne, and he’s just taken a while to come up.”

“As he gets a bit deeper into his preparation, I think we can start to have a bit of fun with him,” Richards added.
“Michael gave him a lovely ride and never looked to be in trouble at any stage,” he said.
“He travelled well, got off the fence at the right time, used his stick in the left-hand and got him to change legs.
“He’d been guilty of coming up the straight on the wrong leg, so I was glad to see him change legs today and quicken in to win well.”

Mazzuro won twice as a three-year-old in Melbourne, as well as a second and third from four starts over the Tasman.
Owned by Bill & Sandra Duell, Mazzuro’s third win comes in his 12th start and takes his prizemoney to over $115,000.
