Massive upset by Rodmar8 Jul 2019

Rider Anna Jones reiterated her gratitude towards trainer Antony Fuller after she piloted Rodmar to an upset win in the $22,500 SKYCITY HAMILTON WAIKATO CUP ON SALE NOW (Rating 65) over 2100 metres on Saturday.

Sent out by punters at 86/1, as the second rank outsider of the field of sixteen runners, Rodmar was slow to begin and was last going past the post the first time. Going down the back, Jones sent the son of Shocking forward around the compact field but so too did Beached As Bro (M.Coleman) with the two hitting the lead 800m from home.
The pair split the opposition and set for a titanic battle down the home straight and it was Rodmar getting the upper hand close to the line to win by long head. Bojangles (C.Burdan) finished ahead of a well strung out field six lengths behind the first two.
Rodmar’s $85.40 winning dividend was the country’s 46th equal biggest since 1997.
“Super instructions from Antony Fuller (trainer), he told me to ride him like a loose horse, so I did and it worked out well,” Anna Jones said.
“He’s a big striding horse and the conditions suited him.”

Rodmar’s winning time was 2:14.80 (last 600m in 38.79) on a Heavy10 track.

The win was Rodmar’s third from 28 starts that also includes 3 placings and takes his career earnings past $32,000 for his owners Rocky'O Connections Syndicate. - Mark Nowell
