In A Twinkling shines29 Oct 2019

Jamie Richards patience paid off with last season’s New Zealand Derby runner-up In A Twinkling after the son of Fastnet Rock captured the $30,000 NZB Ready to Run Sale Nov. 21 – 22 (Rating 82) over 2100 metres at Te Rapa.

In the hands of stable rider Opie Bosson, In A Twinkling settled outside the leader and when Bosson popped the question the four-year-old answered and strode clear to record a comfortable three-quarter of a length win over Pep Torque (T. Thornton) with Obsessive (J. Riddell) one and a quarter length back in third.
“He jumped and put himself there and relaxed beautifully,” Bosson said.
“He was too good in the end and carried a big weight.”
“Sometimes he can do a few things wrong but he did everything one-hundred percent today.”
“And the track was perfect,” Bosson added.

In A Twinkling’s winning time was 2:10.1 (last 600m in 35.1) on Dead4.

“I said to Opie, be aggressive, put him in the race and he controlled the tempo from outside the leader with a big weight. I’m really proud of the horse and he’s turned his form around,” Te Akau trainer Jamie Richards said.
“I think that was evident (last start) at Hawera. He got a lovely run in the race, but when a horse came around him quickly at the 600m he said ‘I’ve had enough for today.”
“He’s a fair horse when he’s right and when he’s got his mind on the job, but to be fair when he doesn’t get things his own way he can switch off.”
“We thought he was going good enough to go to Melbourne in the Spring but we’ve kept him at home, there’s plenty of options for him.”
“He’s sporting a new bit of gear that Al Haram wore as well and I’d like to give thanks to Mark Walker for the pointer with the rubber noseband. The change seems to be effective on some of these tricky horses.”

Purchased by David Ellis for $250,000 and raced by the Te Akau Fastnet Moment Syndicate, In A Twinkling’s second victory in his 16th start also includes four second placings - one of those second placings was in the New Zealand Derby to Crown Prosecutor - took his earnings to $324,526.
