Impressive London Bound on debut8 Jul 2019

London Bound franked her promising trial form to power home to a brilliant win on debut taking out the $22,500 Win the Group 2 Waikato Guineas (1200m) on Saturday.

Although slow away from barrier six of the seven horse juvenile field, rider Craig Grylls allowed the daughter of Proisir to settle at the rear of the field until cruising around the field to lead at the 600m mark and the first starter kept an exceptional pace to record a comfortable victory by seven lengths from the favorite and last-start Stakes winner Flaunting (S.Spratt) with Sai Fah (M.Coleman) a length and half back in third.
“She’s very professional. She was fraction slow away but she picked herself up pretty good. Travelled nicely and took over as if there was no competition.”
“It was a pretty easily win and a lot of scope to forward,” Grylls added.

London Bound’s winning time was 1:12.49 (last 600m in 36.55) on a Heavy10 track.

“We’ve always had a big opinion of her and she did it really well today,” Te Awamutu trainer Clayton Chipperfield said.
“I’ve told the owners they have a potential Group One NZ Oaks filly on their hands next season.”
“She’s built like a tank and is bigger than any of my colts. But the way she won today, we might have to look at the Group One 1000 Guineas in November as well. It’s pretty exciting.”
“In the meantime, there’s another race at Te Rapa in two weeks that has a Pearl bonus. If she pulls up really well from this run, there’s a chance she might back up there,” he added.
