Impressive debut win for Green Hero30 Sep 2019

The well-bred Green Hero franked the form shown at his trials with an impressive win in the $10,000 Amber Garden Centre (Maiden) over 1200 metres on Wednesday.

Jumping straight on the bunny, the son of Rubick set a solid tempo and despite being on one rein down the home straight, the three-year-old fought off a determined effort by favourite Vamos Bebe (C.McNab) to score by a long head. Imaready (C.Grylls) was third, a close long neck back.
“As soon as he went into that first corner he wanted to run wide. He has plenty of ability once he puts it all together,” rider Andrew Calder said.
“He always had them covered but I couldn’t get at him down the straight.”
“He’s a pretty smart horse.”
“He has some speed and good gate, so I was pretty happy to go forward,” Calder said.

Green Hero’s winning time was 1:13.93 (last 600 in 36.52) on a Slow8 track.

“He surprised me how green he raced but he was tough to the line,” trainer Catherine Cameron said.
“He has always shown plenty of speed in his trials so we were confident he would be near the leaders.”
“He is Hong Kong owned but I’m not sure when he is heading up there. The owners wanted a result today and he prevailed.”

Green Hero was purchased at the 2018 Karaka Yearling Sales for $320,000 from Henley Park’s draft.
