Azabeat bolts in17 Aug 2019

Azabeat burst away to a most impressive win in the$22,500 Rugby Raceday 6th September (Rating 65) over 2100 metres on Saturday.

Rider Darren Danis made full use of the ace draw, trailing the leaders throughout until peeling off the rail as the field swung for home to challenge at the 30m mark and kick away for a trouble-free five length victory. Red Rascal (C. Grylls) led the chasing pack with Pierian Spring (R. Elliot) one and a half lengths back in third.
“I knew he was fit after a strong third at Ruakaka and he pulled up really good after the race,” Danis said.
“It’s a team effort for my boss Wayne Hillis and Vanessa and Jeff Walker and the stable rider that rides him at work. We all did a good job.”
“He usually jumps slowly but he jumped well today, held his spot, I didn’t want to be too far back this time and he’s finished off strongly,” Danis said.

Azabeat’s winning time was 2:16.12 (last 600m in 39.52) on a Slow9 track.

“We came into the race with a little bit of confidence. He ran a nice race at his last start at Ruakaka,” stable rep Jeff Walker said.
“He can’t handle the deep tracks so with the sand based track here at Te Rapa suited him.”
“He’s been doing a bit of jumping and he brought him along.”
“It was a nice ride from Darren. From the ace draw, he held his spot and got off the fence at the right time,” Walker said.
The win was Azabeat second win from 18 starts for owners/breeders G & Mrs S Bluett & J F Marks.
