3YO’s set to shine at Te Rapa12 Oct 2020

The already prestigious Sarten Memorial Race Day will be further bolstered this year by the inclusion of the 3YO Soliloquy Stakes to Saturday 24th October’s programme. Traditionally run at Ellerslie the 3YO fillies’ event over 1400m shifts to Te Rapa as a result of the COVID-19 forced calendar re shuffle.

CEO, Andrew ‘Butch’ Castles is thrilled to welcome Waikato Stud back to the Waikato Racing Club’s stable of sponsors as the sponsor for the 2020 running.

The Group 3 race has a quality winners list which includes class fillies Media Sensation, Dijon Bleu and Travelling Light.

As one of New Zealand’s premier Thoroughbred nurseries there is a great synergy between Waikato Stud and the Group 3 Fillies event as the stud is the birthplace of multiple world class fillies including Probabeel, who will line up in the 100th running of the Cox Plate later that day.

Waikato Stud principal Mark Chittick commented “Waikato Stud are delighted to partner with the Waikato Racing Club in sponsoring the Waikato Stud Soliloquy Stakes. With the race now being included in the prestigious NZB Filly of the Year Series it will provide an ideal target for Northern fillies as they head towards the 1000 Guineas 3 weeks later at Riccarton”

Early indications show the field will have a great depth of quality with the Hawkes Bay Breeders Gold Trail Stakes winner Miss Aotearoa being aimed at it alongside placegetters Sweet Anna and Babylon Berlin. New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Million placegetter Taroni, who ran 5th at Hastings, will take her place in the SVS barriers too.

The quality racing on the day doesn’t end there with the Waipa Racing Club continuing their strong relationship with Waikato through the inclusion of the Te Awamutu Cup and John F Grylls Memorial on the programme.
